The Weird Twitter magic of @dril has seen many loving tributes since the mysterious account tweeted the "no" that launched 1,000+ favs in 2008. Since then, @dril's missives have been transformed into webcomics and illustrated with screenshots of video games.
Now the anonymous social media superstar is getting the WWE treatment:@WWEdril does what @WWESubway did for brand partnership and what @WrestlingPoetry did for verse—just far more offensively: Not content to wrestle with the garbage content that the actual WWE has been dishing out, @WWEdril dips its toes into many independent promotions and territories. The account's first tweet paired a screenshot of Lucha Underground's Catrina with @dril's infamous inability to budget for his family. Here's hoping the two hang out in their houses made of candles.
The account blurs the line between wrestling and social media, occasionally veering into meta territory:
@WWEdril inadvertently provides fire commentary on the more problematic aspects of wrestling while also cutting a mean promo against wrestlers fans certainly love to fuck with.
The photo of CM Punk surrounded by chicken and doing his best Chris Christie impression—as if the poultry was the Donald—is pretty great on its own. The wrestler is a snooze-worthy straightedge vegan. He's also a whole lot more interesting with @dril as his hype man.It goes without saying that Roman Reigns is shitty on the mic and that wrestling has historically had a whole lot of issues with respecting diversity, unless it's for a gimmick. @dril, on the other hand, transcends offensiveness by simply staying true to his nonsense.
The world won't have to wait long for a professional wrestler banking on a social media finisher to anchor their crazy character. @WWEdril just happened to beat the WWE creative team to the punch.
