Benedict Cumberbatch still isn't on Twitter, but #AskSmaug is the next best thing

It’s probably just as well that Benedict Cumberbatch doesn’t have his own Twitter account.

It was bad enough when he went on Reddit to talk about his “cheekbone parties” with Matt Smith and Tom Hiddleston, but this week he took over the official Hobbit Twitter to discuss his new movie, The Desolation of Smaug, inspiring approximately a gajillion #AskSmaug questions from fans.

After taking on Sherlock Holmes and Julian Assange, there’s a slight possibility that Cumberbatch isn’t taking his role as a CGI dragon quite as seriously as his previous work. Which is why, thanks to Twitter, we now know that he would prefer the power of flight rather than the ability to breathe fire, “And maybe fart fire while flying. To fly faster.”

Tumblr fandom, this is your imaginary husband. You have made your choice.

Cumberbatch has made it very clear in the past that he doesn’t want to join Twitter himself, so fans were lucky to get this much. But at least for the Trekkies in the audience, he left us with this Vulcan-themed sign-off.
