An Ohio woman who thought a sexual assault was appropriate material to livestream on Periscope was indicted by a grand jury on Wednesday for doing just that. Marina Alexeevna Lonina, 18, is facing charges for sharing a video of 29-year-old Raymond Boyd Gates sexually assaulting her 17-year-old friend in February.
The prosecutor on the case said Lonina and her friend were socializing with Gates earlier that night. A series of unknown events led to a sexual assault that prompted Lonina to take out her smartphone and stream it live on Periscope for her followers to see. Fortunately, one follower decided to notify the police.
Lonina also took a nude picture of the victim the night before the sexual assault. Both her and Gates were indicted on two counts of rape, one count of kidnapping, one count of sexual battery on Gates's part, and three counts of pandering sexual material involving a minor. The two could each face up to 40 years for the charges.
