Ted Cruz campaign pulls attack ad featuring porn actress

Evangelical Tea Party Republicans come in all shapes and sizes—tall and short; fat and thin. They can be firefighters, tax attorneys, Walmart greeters, undergrads, and, like one former Ted Cruz supporter, a soft-core porn actress.

In a recent ad released by the Cruz campaign, “Conservatives Anonymous,” a group of would-be Marco Rubio voters share their disappointment in the junior senator and his apparently weak stance on immigration. Unfortunately, the ad was pulled when the campaign discovered that an actor in the spot, Amy Lindsay, had also appeared in soft-core erotic films.

Lindsay, who in the ad tells another actor, “Maybe you should vote for more than just a pretty face next time,” was under the impression that the casting agent was aware of her full filmography, BuzzFeed reported. That, however, was not the case.

The Houston native, whose credits include such films as Forbidden Sins, Radio Erotica, and The Sex Spa II: Body Work, feels that her visible support of a conservative like Cruz can broaden the popular image of conservatives, showing that an open-minded person such as herself has the same values as a Tea Party voter.

“In a cool way, then hey, then it’s not just some old, white, Christian bigot that people want to say, ‘It could be, maybe, a cool kind of open-minded woman like me,” she told BuzzFeed.

The Cruz campaign did not agree.

“The actress responded to an open casting call,” Cruz spokesperson Rick Tyler told BuzzFeed. “She passed her audition and got the job. Unfortunately, she was not vetted by the production company.”

Tyler added that if the campaign knew about Lindsay’s past filmography, “we obviously would not have let her appear in the ad.”

Lindsay, who also appeared in the series finale of Star Trek: Voyager, tweeted her disappointment about the Cruz campaign’s decision.

Veteran porn actor Ron Jeremy, who appeared in a Jan. 21 photo with Lindsay, expressed his support when he learned about the news on Twitter

Lindsay is still unsure whether or not she’s voting for Cruz or Donald Trump, but the Cruz team axing her ad may have just tipped the scales in favor of the other not-so-pretty face.
